Charcoal in motion
This hand and foot study was done in a figure drawing class.
The focuses of the project was to experiment with composition as well as shades and highlights on various hands and feet.
"For my work, I wanted to move the eye of the viewer around the work keeping them inside the drawing." -Nathanael McCain
Just a bit of strange
In this illustration assignment, Nathanael was tasked with creating a composition with multiple figures.
The inspiration of this work came from Rembrandt's The Night Watch. The work plays with having a large number of figures performing dynamic motions.
To set his work apart from that of Rembrandt Nathanael used his signature hatching and shading style as well as adding a creature from his imagination.
"The idea was to have an image that looks normal but have something to offset it. The one uncanny part." -Nathanael McCain
